MED Thoughts on "44" (Thanks, Rippa!)

I saw this over on Rippa's blog, and I give brother full credit for his post! Please be sure to review the original article on The Intersection Of Madness And Reality. I'm re-posting here because it got this brutha to think and this certainly is a must v-cast for any Barack Obama supporter/advocate. Wanted to give others the opportunity to reflect and respond on Michael Eric Dyson's thoughts as well...

"Wow! I was really ready to throw down and defend Mister "44," who I love and respect no matter what the staunchest critics say about him, but Dr. Dyson was dead on. Unfortunately, Dr. D speaks the truth, really, that to the older generations, having a black president may not matter! Washington is just a hot bed of game,contention, and mess. Pander to my neighbor so I can get what I need for my constituents or my own self interests. I'm not saying the President isn't a good man or without altruistic intentions, but let's accept there's going to be issues he'll sidetrack, back peddle, and perhaps, completely overlook for a time, until he's comfortable with the impact he's made on the majority (translation white people).

The President has to straddle a difficult fence. I don't envy him, but again, I agree with Dr. Dyson Black people shouldn't give him a "free pass." He needs to be held accountable. Believe me, as a gay black man, I'm watching and hearing the rumblings the Gay Community is having with Obama for not fulfilling his promise to LGBTQ community over DADT (Don't Ask, Don't Tell) and other equal rights for gays. They/we're certainly are holding him up to his word. They/we are demanding he honor his obligation he campaigned.

Should certain issues be sacrificed for the time being? Which issues need to go first? Does a lack to act firmly on minority issues mean "44' has forgotten about us? I don't think so. He has so much on his plate, but I think Obama wants to reach out universally, not to just one community or the other, which means some in the minority (issues) will get overlooked. Is it right? Hell, no. But it's P-O-L-I-T-I-C-S!

Here's a personal question I need to ask. As someone who understands what it's like to be multiracial, how is the whole matter of race, ethnicity, and identity seen by the POTUS? For himself? I've seen interviews. Does he relate as an American? Or does he HAVE TO because we've given Obama the "Black" label, strictly identify as Black (or African American in the truest sense)? We all know he's biracial, "mixed" as we used to say, but grew up in a different set of circumstances than your average African American. I wonder...

Now we've heard the jokes...when the President makes a mistake or slights Black folk, blame it on his "White" half. Is it fair that we hold him to a standard that he has to be 100% in our corner? Honestly? I wanna say he should because if he didn't have the labels in front of his name...Professor, Senator, Mr. President...you know the racists would just see him as another "n" word. I don't know. America speaks with forked tongue no matter what the community, what the ethnic group, we all expect something from this President that he may or may not be able to achieve.

I accept that he'll need to not offend white people, who to be sure, many will accuse him of giving hand outs and freebies to "us" (Black folk) just because of his race. HOWEVER... like Dr Dyson indicated, each of the 43 Presidents preceding Mr. Obama looked out for their "own people," it just wasn't necessarily said because they were of the "majority." And Mr. Obama wants a second term. What President hasn't? So he's gotta play the game, back peddle in some areas, to insure he doesn't offend and hurt feelings to hinder a second term. Is this right? No, but is the nature of the beast. That's why I hate Politics. Ultimately, no matter who the politician, their best intentions, isn't it all about personal gain and legacy?"

Regardless of your political affiliations, which cable or broadcast news channel you're most drawn towards, hands down, you gotta admit CNN has the most diversified, most handsome, lot of Men of Color anchors, correspondents, commentators, and political pundits out there.

Oh sure! Other networks try, but fail in comparison. "Fixed Noise" (Fox) has Geraldo (eww!), MSNBC has Harold Ford Jr. (handsome, but he's a "passer" and too self-pontificating at times), CBS had Russell Mitchell (handsome as hell, but he's since retired), and you really wanna go to there...let's not forget NBC's Al Roker (if he's your sorta thang).


I'll admit it! Part o' the reason I stay in touch is cause I'm hooked on the brothers on CNN. Don't know about you, but I make extra effort on the weekends to tune in to catch T.J. Holmes broadcast the news. Those dreamy bedroom eyes, that husky smooth as silk voice...damn. Read recently on Black Snob blog T.J.'s gotten engaged, but he's being all hush hush about it. Whoever she is, she's one lucky woman!

I think every gay man and straight black woman agrees T.J. ranks as the #1 hottest, sexiest thang in a suit, news anchor currently in the business. Sexy just doesn't give Brother Holmes justice. Sultry, perhaps. Confidant, masculine, smooth, with a touch o' Southern charm. (Teej is from Memphis, right?) Deliver that news, baby!

So, yes. T.J.'s numero uno over on CNN. But I ask you, who's number two? Personally, I'm torn. Joe Johns is very distinguished; more mature than his counterparts, so let's not discount age. But I gotta confess a hankering for Don Lemon (Spidey Sense tingles when he's on air) or Jason Carroll (he reminds me of an ex-boyfriend, down to the features and complexion). Even Dr. Sanjay Gupta is tasty on occasion. So... ¡Díga me! Who's your pick for number two man on CNN? Who's runner up to Thomas James Holmes?

Donny Lemon is the guy you're sure you'd best good friends with. He gives of theat sincere loyal vibe. Now my man is not as delicious as his CNN coworker, T.J. Holmes, but has just as charming demeanor. Don's cute, no? I think so. Remember when he worked in Philadelphia awhile back. I bet all the boys in Rittenhouse Square miss Donny now! Ha!

So there's some conjecture behind Don's true age. Most accounts state Don was born March 1, 1966, but both Don's Facebook and MySpace page have him listed as March 1, 1970. Hm? I wonder now...

In any case, Happy either 39th or 43rd Birthday, Don!

Mrs. Ann Nixon Cooper

A few months back before the election, CNN's Don Lemon did an interview with the 106 years young Mrs. Ann Nixon Cooper. Her life spans three centuries and overlaps two milenia. Wonders and more wonders. What this woman has seen come and go. Her only wish was to see a Black person as President.

Well today she gets her wish! I'm grateful and thankful the Lord blessed this dear woman to live to see this day. I've even heard President Obama personally called and invited her to the Inauguration festivities. Kudos President B! Now, I wonder if Don Lemon is still gonna be her date for the Inaugural Ball?

OK, folks. We had our day to celebrate. Did a flimsy post to comemorate the milestone because I was tired from staying up until 3 AM Tuesday Night. I'm still tired, but it time to resume our regular programming. Party's on hold until MLK Weekend '09. Then we can celebrate all over again. For now, life ain't gonna stop just cause history was made. There's still bills to get paid, appointments to keep, debts to be paid, commitments to hold.

But boo-yeah, baby! We got our first Black President, America!

So where do we go from here? Not Barack, but us, the addicted News Media junkies?!?! I mean, I tried watching MSNBC and CNN yesterday. Just didn't have the same feel. Nope. Not at all. Seeking a consolation prize, I even tuned into The View, hoping Elizabeth be smarting her ass off, instead all I got was a Sherry Shepard break down. Damn! Sherry didn't you get the November 5th etiquette memo??? You not supposed to breakdown in public. Only in private. Yeah, I know you was overcome, but like Whoopi tried to tell you "Don't go, don't go!"

So how many times did you cry? I'll admit it, had my moment several times. Tom Joyner did a montage on Tuesday morning starting with MLK and ending with Barack's DNC Convention speech. Tuesday night, lost it when I talked to my family, then again driving home from an Election Watch party. Whew! Too much of that, LOL.

Time to put away the handkerchiefs now. (Do people even use those anymore?) Suck it up soldier. Life keeps on going. But please, please, somebody tell me what am I gonna do now that I can't get up in wee hours to watch the campaign speeches? The asinine Fox Noise folks claiming their McCain victory? Where is my meaning to the Rachel Maddow Show, now? Do I continue to tune in for Keith Olbermann's "Worse Person Of The World?"

Oh, Anderson Cooper! Am I really gonna tune into AC 360? Larry King Live? Do I watch CNN & MSNBC at all now? Sure there's uber-sexy-as-silk CNN reporters TJ Holmes & Don Lemmon, and the pontificating Harold Ford Jr on MSNBC, but one can only stare at these brothers for so long dammit without getting that vapid feeling! Is the News still newsworthy? Tell me!

So where do I go from here? Do I migrate over to E!? HGTV? ESPN? Spike? Univision? Cartoon Network? God forbid, CMT???? Nope. The best thing from here is click the remote off, pick up a book, and immerse myself in the world of my own mind.

Perhaps one of the best news anchors in broadcast media (in my humble opinion), T.J. Holmes is one damn fine-ass looker. You can catch him on CNN Weekend Morning Edition Saturday and Sundays. Two of the photographs below picture T. J. with his weekend co-host Betty Nguyen and also interviewing actress Victoria Rowell.

T.J. had been dating Chili from TLC awhile back, not sure if they still are or not, and I read he has a daughter. Who care's if he's straight?!? While it may cause some sexual frustration, it never hurts to look. Or fantasize. Right, Fry-guy?

Now I can hear Hester's voice in my head even as I type this. She'll read this tomorrow and accuse "Oh God, Not another pretty boy!" Given her tastes for rough looking dirty boys, our tastes in men differ significantly. Yet, I challenge my sister to catch T.J. this weekend, listen to that smooth as silk voice of his for 10 seconds, then form an opinion. He's the total package, baby!

The Democratic Process: West Virgina Primary

Barack and Hillary make another petition to achieve top dibs for the Democratic Presidential Nomination today. Word has it Hillary will take West Virginia by storm. It doesn't surprise me. I don't much about West Virginia, even though it's only about 1 hour 15 minutes away from where I live. Can't see them overwhelmingly vote for Barack there. Sorry. Can't.

Hillary maybe able to make up some ground, but Obama is getting more pledged Super Delegates, closer to the magic number of 2025. I'm so tired of all this. I wish Hillary would just drop out already, but in typical Clinton fashion, she'll do whatever necessary to get her way. That's what the Clintons do. But from watching the political commentary shows, mostly everyone agrees Barack will be the Democratic Nominee. Wait and see. I don't wanna jinx brother yet. There those out there searching for something, anything to topple him over!

I've yet to turn on CNN, but believe me, I'll be glued to CNN tonight after American Idol, if only to catch a glimpse of T.J. Holmes or Andy Cooper, LOL. Oh yeah. And find out primary results. Yeah, uh-huh. That's what I meant...

***Note again: Sigh! Tonight definitely won't be like last Tuesday. No staying up late. West Virginia voted for that bit... I mean, Hilary in droves. Doesn't surprise me as I said earlier. I could comment further, but then it would get ugly. The whole issue has long started to wear thin and race is definitely a big factor, whether people want to admit it or not.

I've heard several older white state they won't vote for Barack Obama because they think he'll give advantages to black people. Come on now! Do these old R-tards really think he's going to reinstitutionalize slavery and impose it upon White America? Jesus! Grow up! Even I forget sometimes, but Barack is BIRACIAL. His mother and grandparents are White.

Seriously? What are all these old folks worried about? What kind of person enslaves their own family members? Who could be so dastardly to do some shit like that? Huh? No one has EVER done that in American History. No, not ever!

Oh, hang on a minute! Hmmm......

He's Hot! Isn't He Hot? No? Who's Hot Then?

I found this brother's photos whilst surfin' the web last night. Umm. There are no other words, but he hot! He IS hot. Now I won't say where I found him at, just delight in his handsomeness with me.

Not much is going on today, it's been a lazy day. I made reservations to take out my mum for Mother's Day. It should be interesting because my house is an undeclared disaster area and I really have no motivation to clean it. Usually, I try to keep it tidy, but with my mood swing drama last and earlier this week, I just didn't feel like it. Surely, my mother will chastise me for my house being in utter disarray. I've been watchin' television non-stop. Actually, that's not completely true. I've also been catching up on my reading.

Sure, I'll get the motivation to straighten up tomorrow. Tonight though, I'm headed down to see my ex-in-laws since they're in town. They've always treated me well despite the busted up marriage thang. I'm hoping I can convince them to put Ugly Betty on. Their conservative selves love to watch the Republican Propaganda.... I mean Fox News Channel. I'm sure I can sneak upstairs to one of the bedrooms and view my show if needed. It's rude, but I can get away with it! LOL. Besides they SHOULD be watching CNN instead of Fox News. If no other reason than to see my newsmen T.J. Holmes and Anderson Cooper.

Speaking of "Andy," I found myself completely enthralled with him on Tuesday night watching the Indiana Primary results. I don't know what it is about Anderson, but he has a magnetism I've been attracted to since he was host on ABC's The Mole. My only complaint is Anderson won't come "Out," dammit! It's well known he's gay. My friend even spotted him at well known gay club and took a picture of Anderson with his cellphone camera. I've seen the picture. T'would appear to be Ms. Vanderbilt's son.

Let me stop here. Andy is doing what's best for himself. Still, Anderson Cooper is someone I can wax poetic about all day long. He's on my top five list of all time hot men. I won't mention who the others are, but you can figure out who my top 20 list is if you've read the blog long enough. (I will say that unlike Anderson, Wentworth Miller is not in the top 5 or top 10, but he is on the top 20 list.)

I have unusual, varying tastes when it comes to men. It also depends on the ethnic persuasion of the guy too. I think you've gotten the type I go for in Men Of Color. If not search through the labels, you'll figure it out. I generally go for all types, thick, skinny, defined...I love Afrocentric hairstyles on my men, but bald is sexy too! There's something about a bald man of African Ancestry that exudes masculine heat. Masculinity is so sexy, is it not?

With white men? Mm, I don't know if I have a particular type per se. Despite popular opinion amongst my friends, I'd take a well seasoned man any day over a pretty boy. I like guys who are average, with a tat or two, and definitely good hair. Facial hair is a definite plus. Your pretty boys shun facial hair. They're afraid of it like the plague, LOL. Damn them! Goatees, chops, beards, 'staches,... nothing twists my key more. All, except, handlebar mustaches. Sorry. I draw the line there. Can't be having Dog The Bounty Hunter fantasies now! Yuck! Of course Anderson has no facial hair, but his premature gray hair? Sssssssssssizlin!

Depending on who's reading the blog, I often get feedback for not having enough men of color and having too many white men. Then, I got an interesting email about some of the Black men posted because they weren't black enough.

Huh? I never seemed to notice it before until said reader pointed it out, but if you search through the blog, many of my hot list are Interracial men...Derek Jeter, Will Demps, Wentworth Miller, Vin Diesel, Daniel Sunjata, Jason Kidd, Jason Taylor, Lenny Kravitz, James Blake, on and on...so maybe the brother was correct about me?

Oh really? Is that such a problem? A Man is a man. To quote myself, like I posted recently on another blog, "If he hot, he hot, don't matter what color he is!" I get a little paranoid occasionally for posting my vision of beauty though. I'm waiting for the day the S-Word (sellout) is dropped, then I think I might hafta kick some ass or two (Gee, I've 'ttude today)!

For me, given my own mixed ethnic background, I guess it doesn't phase me in the least. I like bruthas across the whole color spectrum. What is sexy to me, may not be sexy to you. So be it. If you don't like the guys I post, then just read my words. But don't be unkind. We all have our attractive meter. Remember the Almond Joy commercial? Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't? Well, sometimes I'm drawn to a light-skinned man, sometimes I'm not. Sometimes a dark-skinned man, sometimes not!


I don't wanna dive into the Color Line issue within the African American community, only that I wish it would go away. Division within is far more damaging than from without. And those of you who are persons of color reading the blog, tell me if I'm right or wrong. I just know what I know from my own experiences and feedback I've gotten for guys. Perhaps, I'm just blowing this out of proportion.

Aw shit! I think I started something here. K. I'll wrap it all up by posting one more picture then. Enjoy the loveliness that is Derek Jeter, shirtless, at the beach. Uh-huh. I'm counting down the days till my Yankees game in NYC this summer. Three things I wanna accomplish, eating at Sylvia's, shopping, and getting Jeter's autograph.

And, yes, I do have a trip scheduled for Boston this summer too, for those of you keeping score. I'm a BoSox fan, but catch me in some situations and you might see an N&Y on my head. D'oh!

...I await the scathing daggers thrown at me from either fan base now, LOL. Hey, sue me! I'm from PA after all, born, bred, and raised a Phillies fan (even though they piss me off FREQUENTLY!)
