Remembering Marvin

April 2, 1939 - April 1, 1984

Talent taken away from us way too soon. I was in junior high school the year he died. Was watching a basketball game with my Grandfather when Brent Musburger came on tell us Marvin had been shot and killed by his father. I remember we all sat there in the living room, dumbfounded.

How can it be 29 years ago? Time goes so quickly....

Really? Maybe if this is true, I'll tune in. i haven't watched Saturday Night Live in ages. Nothing personal, but I simply outgrew the show. Plus it just wasn't as funny. I commend them though that the show is still going strong after 35+ years. Not sure, but it should be turning 40 in 2015, no?

Wrong Direction

So, Harry Styles got a shoe thrown at his junk at a concert. Apparently, an overzealous fan wanted him to touch something of hers to feel a deeper connection. So you throw a frakkin' shoe at his balls? Okaaaayyy. Y'all can keep your crazed fans, Oh Dee.

Normally I don't appreciate any humor in a man getting hit in the sweet spot. Truly, it ain't funny. If you think it is, then you've never been the recipient of the experience. That said, I was an ig'nant som'body when I laughed my ass off yesterday watching at work. I couldn't help myself.  

Sorry, Harry. I hope your nads are OK, but my disdain for your group, One Direction, is paramount these days. They're everywhere on Tumblr blogs. If you're lucky to know any 'tweens or teens, you're bombarded with their music. Ugh. Enough. Weren't boy bands over in the early 2000s? NKOTB Save us!!!!!!

So semi-seriously, why are these boys relevant? Well, as a middle aged man, they shouldn't be. As my friend Viktor posted not long ago on Friendbook, if you're older than 15 and you like One Direction, your taste in music is suspect. That's paraphrased, but you catch his drift, eh?

I don't understand the fascination with One Direction. I just don't. Someone care to explain it to me? Really. New Edition help, but I really want to know. Maybe 'cause I'm too old, not into l'il boys, and am not a 'tween-aged girl, I'm not supposed to understand. And let's buy a clue boys.... Miss Honey! Girl! (written with the emphasis so intended)....really, lets get with the program. You're gay just like the rest of us!!! LOL.

 For all those young girls, it's bad news. For all those young, gay boys, it perhaps, depending on taste good news. Aren't two members always grabbing for each others' stuff? I've heard of horseplay, but Oh Dee takes it to the Nth degree. Even the boys in my fraternity didn't pull stunts I've observed between One Direction, and my frat bros were very questionable at times. Well, aren't all fraternity boys? Heheheh. OK, don't slam me for that one.

And from what my coworker told me, rumors have been abound for some time. She mention something about "Larry?" I wasn't too sure what the eff she was talking about. Wasn't paying attention.  I was checking the hot guy in the office's ass at the time. Oh yeah, Liam and Harry are boyfriends secretly. Oh, they deny it. One of them was dating Taylor Swift or someone or other. But PLEASE...Let the evidence speak for itself. Observe:

Now I don't know Larry from Harry from Gary to Barry, or whoever they are. I only know that they're young, silly, and annoy me. But, they are entitled to butter their biscuits however they choose. This much is true. So let me shut it down and live and let live. But I'm jus' sayin'??? For REAL? Straight?

Last night I was deeply saddened when my buddy text me Heavy D had passed. I was in shock. Told a few people at work and everyone else responded with the same incredulous reaction.

Forty-four is way too young... I got me to think about my own life and not taking things for granted. Not anything. Yes Lord, I woke this morning moanin' and groanin' but I'm ever so thankful you breathed another day into my lungs. Today is ultimate all we have. One sweet day at a time. Thank you Jesus.

Rest in Peace Heavy D. You will be missed.

This Shit Is Too Funny!

Now I normally don't watch award shows, I think they're stupid, but thank you Drama Dupree for bring this to my attention on what happened at the MTV Movie Awards with Bruno and Eminem. Oh this shit was hysterical! You gotta also watch Drama's response too (here if you're not on Facebook)! I don't know who had me peeing my pants more. Bruno/Eminem or Drama Dupree.

Is He Ready? And I'm Sorry.

Now I caught the snippet on Rhymes With Snitch that T.I. will start his jail sentence a week from this Tuesday. I have mixed emotions about it and him.

While I understand the reason for his sentence, after I watched a few episodes of Road to Redemption (his television program on MTV), I gained more respect for the brother.

Ashamedly, I group him with the whole group of artists in his genre, and just wrote him off as another "thug." I'm not a fan of hip hop or rap and have even less favorable beliefs about T.I.'s contemporaries, but now is not the time dish out the evil of that particular music genre. Shouldn't pass judgment until you know a person's heart, their character. T.I.'s program showed more than enough to prove me wrong, give me some enlightenment and insight to the man behind the exterior. I don' know bruh from Adam, I owe T.I. an apology for my preconceived notions about him. Besides, he's effin' phine too!!!

Lord Help Me. Bettah Still, Help This Fool..

I promised myself I wasn't gonna comment anymore on Chris Brown. I saw several bloggers throw their two cents on the subject. Well, I swore I wasn't devoting one sentence on the the matter. Well, that lasted one day. Don't worry I don't have the energy to wax philosophic on Chris. I'm angry with him.

Believe me, I take no pleasure in this young brother going possibly going to jail. Yes, he made a mistake and should be offered some penance, but is he remorseful over his actions? Truly contrite? Or his he, literally, trying to save his ass? (If he don't know how to hit a MAN instead of a WOMAN, Chris better learn fast).

I wish this whole affair would disappear. It's a sad statement on young black men, men period. If I had the voice, the concise words, I could articulate why I think his little mongrel thug ass needs to set behind bars for a few years.

Yet, I lie. I seethe outwardly, weep inwardly for him, and ask God for me to have a better attitude toward the young man. Ask God that Chris can really be remorseful and have learned his lesson. Well see in a few weeks how this turns out....
