Fireworks, Will Smith, & Church? Uh-huh!

The Holiday weekend was nice. Well, that is to say I had a nice weekend. The same can't be said in my circle of friends as everything that could go wrong went down this weekend. I won't blog about their personal issues only that they're in my thoughts today.
Just a brief synopsis of my Fourth Weekend, I end up stayin' in the area and caught the fireworks on downtown. I swear er'ry hot man of African-American/Latino/Hispanic descent from the five county radius was at the Riverfront on Friday night. Felt more like a child in a candy shop than a spectator at a Independence Day celebration. S' OK. Now you understand another reason why ID4 is one of my top holidays, men in summer attire, baby! HA!
Saturday I lunched with friends and caught the new Will Smith movie, Hancock. Will had it goin' on after he shaved and cleaned himself up. Tight ass Wolverine costume indeed. Damn Will! If you haven't seen the movie yet, be sure to stay until the end credits are through, like X-Men Unlimited or Iron Man.
All I have to say is "Asshole!"
Won't say anymore. Those who saw Hancock will understand the reference. However, it's not a film I'd take any child under 14 to see. The violence was disturbing, especially the one scene with Jason Bateman, and my opinion is small children don't need to see this movie. While the violence is mostly implied, kids ain't stupid.
Speaking of Senor Bateman. Dude and are almost the exact same age (I think?) and he is lookin' might seasoned in the face. He's come a long way from being the annoying neighbor on Silver Spoons. At least his acting redeemed himself for his character in Juno. Loved Juno, hated Bateman's character.
Sunday, went to church with Tamodi. It has been a good experience going to church these last couple of weeks. I'm on a roll and will continue to go as long as the Spirit moves me. I feel welcomed, so far.
After church, I came home, ate, relaxed, and read most of the evening. All in all, not a bad weekend.
Oh, and to answer Greg's question from last week... No, there weren't any hot guys in church. Not even remotely! If I want hot guys, I'm afraid I need to attend the MCC church uptown, even then, it's slim pickins. Unless you count my friend RaShawn, he goes there regularly.RaShawn is hot as hell (no that's not him to the right)! Nice dark brown complexion, muscular, medium build, legs for days.... Oh and did I mention he ran track at Uni (college)? Mmmm. Nothin' like a hot track man!
I must digress, though. RaShawn is my friend after all. Still though....LOL.

Crabby Apple

I'm feeling a bit melancholy tonight. Perhaps it's because I'm still battling this cold. Perhaps it's from not having a cigarette in the last 40 hours?!? Not sure, in either case, my mood is a bit darker than I care to have.
I'm annoyed at the current status quo. I thought life was supposed to be more manageable as we got older. Phhht! The lack of nicotine has made me irritable. The stitch in my side from cough has made me grumpy. The holes in my heart and my soul are making me less optimistic. I promised Greg I'd blog about the man I met at Red Lobster, Freddie, but I'm in a sour place. Too foul to be all cheery and yippy-skippy!
Mind if I wait until tomorrow? It is an interesting folly of events and once you read about it, chalk it up to another dunderhead moment for yours truly. Sometimes, even with gaydar, I refuse to see what's blatantly before me.
But, also from a place inside, comes a sense of shame. I'm not sure why, it just is here. Suddenly all my issues jump started today, possibly due to drop of nicotine in my system. Most of that is psychosomatic though, I simply don't know what to do with myself and time. All the little triggers and reminders are there. Like sitting on my back porch, smoking, staring at the Police Station. Or having one with the other "no-no" du Jour, {any caffeinated beverage}. Siiiiighh. This is my own fault. I wish I could go back in time, smack that cigarette outta Steve Dembrowski's hand as he offered it to me 22 summers ago! I've been an addict I tell you, an addict!
In the long run, these next few days will be a challenge, but better health-wise. Please though, don't lecture. Everyone from Miss T to E.J to Hester to Leoban to Napoleon (even he recently quit!!!!) has lectured me within the last 48 hours about time to quit. I love ya guys, thanks, now SHUT UP Please! (Oh Dear! It seems King Bitch has made her appearance for this stage of the withdrawal game). You know I love ya, but using one of the best quotes I know..."Hang on Folks! It's gonna be a bumpy ride tonight!"

Medalist No Mo

So Marion Jones surrendered each of her medals won in the 2000 Olympics and officially retired? Sigh...what has befallen our athletes these days? I mean, the steroid issue, just doesn't seem to go away does it? No matter what the the IOC or USOC does to prevent occurrence, it just keeps coming back.
I'm waiting now for the other shoe to fall, hear Maurice Greene was involved in steroid usage (I pray not), and watch him stripped of his Olympic accomplishments. I know this controversy has been lingering for months, but its one of those "Say it ain't so, Joe" deals. I guess we need to chalk this up for one more African American Athlete in disgrace for this year, Michael Vick, now Marion. Discouraging doesn't begin to express the disappointment.

Sticky, Hot and Humid

Its another sticky, hot and humid Indian Summer Day in the Susquehanna Valley. I hate this point in the early autumn season.
I don't know if the rest of the country refers to this time frame as "Indian Summer" or not. Y' know, just thinking about the term itself somehow feels soooo politically incorrect, Growing up here in Pennsylvania, I've always known it to be called such. I figured it was something like "Indian corn," the multicolored corn you find at Halloween and Thanksgiving. Thanks to a mi hermana, Venessa, I've removed the derogatory use of "Indian-Giver" from my vocabulary, and more appropriately use "European-Giver" instead (which is so accurate! European settler stole the Native Indigenous people's land, made them treaties, broke each one. Oh, and let's not forget, the 40 acres and a mule promised to freed salves!).
Of course, here in Central PA, people still use the term "niggardly," but that doesn't mean its usage is politically correct either. If "Indian Summer" has crossed the line, I apologize if I've offended. Take conciliation I've Native American blood on both sides of my family tree, both paternal and maternal. It also explains why I use the moniker "Darktomahawk." While I identify myself as African American, I can step the over the line, and claim multiethnic. I'm just a copper complected kid, born in PA and raised all over the Eastern Seaboard from Philly to South Carolina.
Regardless, the heat has made me feel irritable, feelin' like shit from Shitsville. I'm feelin' grumpy, but not bitchy, restless, without being tired. I dunno what my problem is. Anyway, there's nothing more pleasurable than starin' at a man in form fittin' lycra, although it'll make you more hot and bothered in some cases...

The Unofficial Summer's End

So Labor Day is finally here and it seems like the summer months have flown by. It's weird. Summer didn't seem like it was going so fast. Soon the cooler temps will be here and our thoughts will be turning to football and soon after that the Holidays.
I must admit, September has never been my favorite month. This year, however, things are a little different. I thought I'd be going back to work tomorrow, but no such luck, so my extended summer "vacation" continues. I'm getting a little sick of being cooped up in the house, but in order to heal, I have to spend most of the day laying around. Ugh! I know I'll have gained 80 billion pounds before this is all said and done. At least I'm getting out of the house today. My friend Hester's son Robin is having his 10th birthday party today. Sheesh! 10 seems like a lifetime ago.
In any case, I shall enjoy the Labor Day Holiday. With fall coming, Seasonal Autumn Track will also start soon. Now track athletes are a fine example of men at their most graceful and sexiest. Oh baby There's nothing more beautiful than a phiiiiiine lookin' man in track shorts running towards you. Whew!
Unfortunately with Fall Track, most of the beautiful arms, legs, and torsos on the guys are all covered up. But just to get the memories of Spring and Summer following, enjoy a beautiful speciMEN sample of masculine poetry in motion (or at least these guys standing around, displaying their wares and tears, LOL).
