Easter Season

So Holy Week starts tomorrow. Hm, how do I feel about that? Not sure. Religion and I are having difference of opinions in my middle years. It's not that I believe, but God's chosen some times leave a bad taste in one's mouth. Ah, but there is a huge chasm between being faithful and being religious. I wish people would just be kind to one another, loving and forgiving. Is that too much to ask?

Why does it seem Easter is the lesser of the big two Christian holidays? Without Easter, Christmas becomes unimportant, just another day. I think because folks have not taken the message of forgiveness and redemption to heart is but one reason. If we tried to be forgiving, perhaps our big blue marble would be a happier Earth?

I don't have the answers, only questions. Maybe this week some will be answered, eh?

I thought this picture was cute. I actually have a similar tee, some retro distressed deal I picked up at Target. Anyhoo, Big D and I are going to a gathering commemorating the day after he gets home from later. I never really did anything for the day before, so this should be some new and interesting.

Yeah, I've been called "fruity" in my day. I laugh at it now, but back in the day it bothered me. Suppose that what youth and immaturity is all about, fear and immaturity. At least my youth was.

At forty-four, I've learned to revel and delight in my "off-ness." As Alfred E Newman from Mad Magazine asked, "Why be normal?" Conformity is overrated. LOL.

I'm thankful in my 40s I've FINALLY come into my own and settled into my own skin. I'm happy and that's what counts!

It's Mardi Gras!!!

Well it's the last day before the Season of Lent begins. Do people really doo Lent anymore? At least in America? seems like we're very non-traditional these days. Hmm. I've never been to Mardi Gras or Southern Decadence or any other place where blatant acts of public nudity are acceptable. I hope to remedy that one of these years, just don't expect yours truly to drop trou for no beads. I'm not that cheap. LOL.

Will He? Won't He? God Knows!

I've never understood why people gather en masse, at the crack of dawn no less, to watch an overgrown rodent predict the season's change. I mean really, how does Punxsutawney Phil recognize if he saw his shadow or not??? And if the creature sees his shadow, how do you suppose it tells it's handlers it did? LOL

I don't know who started the tradition of Groundhog Day, but it's so silly. Oh, I'm not trynna pee into any o' body's cornflakes this 'morning, just scratching my head at some the rather odd traditions people do.

I forget which is the proper condition, but I assume that most Pennsylvania Winters are cloudy and overcast and don't let much sun through for anything to cast a shadow. Not always, but most Winter Days are gloomy. Folks gather at that Gobbler's Knob in the wee hours and wait. In the cold.  

Oh hell no! 

But if there's any truth to rodent prognostication, I'll lay my cards with an early Spring. After all, if the Farmer's Almanac, overzealous squirrels gathering food, and the colorist mood swings of wooly caterpillars can predict the seasons, why not rely on the devilishly fat woodchuckin', pig-whistlin', land beaver, Phil, eh?

Giving thanks for the blessings, trials, and tribulations I survived in the old year! Praising God that I lived to see another year start. Wishing you all the best these next 3-6-5. Let's hope this will be one of the best years ever for us all.

Rockin' New Year's Eve

This New Year's Eve will seem empty without Dick Clark at the helm. Dick was another one of the great ones we lost this year. I think ABC plans to continue the program with Ryan Seacrest as the primary host.  

Ugh! God save us from another exposure to the La Seacrest! LOL.

It's been tradition ever I was younger to catch at least the ball drop from Time Square with Dick Clark. No matter where I was, no matter who I was with, I managed to catch the show every year for the last 35 or so years. Now, I suppose the show must go on, It's funny. Nothing kept the show from not happening. Not the extreme cold, technical difficulties, tired show divas, even Dick Clark's own stroke a number years ago....

So while I'm out partying tonight, doing whatever it is, I'll take a moment to toast Dick Clark and Rockin' New Year's Eve for 30 + years of entertainment!

A Kiss Is But A Kiss

Anticipating that wonderful kiss tomorrow night at midnight? Me too. And if it were a superhero, hmm, who would I choose? Nobody from the DC Universe, definitely a member from Marvel. But with so many choices, who?

Getting back to reality..., I'm hoping 2013 will be my year! Two days left folks. Lets enjoy 2012 while it lasts, move ahead, and soar to a beautiful and hopefully prosperous New Year!

Christmas Day 2012

What a wonderful site to see; President (44!) and Mrs Obama in front of the White House Christmas.

Christmas indeed arrived in early November this year...but I digress.

Merry Christmas to anyone stopping by today. I hope your family celebrations and traditions are filled with as much love, joy, and spirit that the season has to offer.

I get sentimental at Christmas. You know that old time tradition where the family gathers to open gift, share stories of yesteryear, and then feast like kings. Throw in a few sporting events, a drunken Aunt, cousin or two, and you have the perfect holiday! LOL.

Seriously though, today will be spent traveling across the Keystone state visiting various relatives who couldn't come to my house this year. I'm looking forward to a pleasant day. What bites is I have to go to work tomorrow, but I'm not gonna think about the negative. Nope. I will embrace with family that good fortune all got another year to bask in each others' company.

So whatever your plans today, I bid you all the best that the Holidays have to offer.

I couldn't decide what was the better video to post. I definitely want Mahalia in the clip, but in the second video the sound quality is much better. By far this rendition is one of my favorite Christmas carols.
